Free Online Storage

How often have you run out of storage on your local machines and wondered about having a new / bigger harddrive? How often you feel that you forgot your data on your home machine or your work machine and have to do without it?

There are plenty of sites which can assist you in carrying your files from one place to other for free. Some of the common ones are -

  • Yousendit - Free account, no ads, file available for 14 days, upto 1 Gb.
  • Rapidshare - Free account, ads, file deleted after 30 days of inactivity, upto 100 MB.
  • Megaupload - Free account, ads, deleted after 90 days of inactivity, upto 500 MB.

Recently I have heard of few sites which give you unlimited (almost) space online. How can these companies sustain is still doubtful to me.

  • Divshare - Currently the site has no ads, no pop-ups, no spam, and lets you create galleries if you're uploading pictures. It also enables you to upload unlimited files of any type, the files will stay there forever, and the company will somehow serve unlimited downloads, too !!
  • Xdrive - 5GB of free online secure storage. You can even share the files with your friends.
  • Dropboks - Web-based file cabinet which gives you 1Gb of free space. The interface is very simple. The only catch is that individual file size cannot exceed 50MB and you can retrieve only one file at a time.
  • Localhostr - Currently in beta, but a fairly simply 3 way step to upload file (size restricted to 50 MB currently). Select the file, upload it and then copy one of the three resulting links - a standard URL, HTML-formatted link, or BBcode.

Few of my friends requested me to post tricks and tips to download files from rapidshare / megaupload and how to bypass their IP / Country restriction. If you are also looking for a similar solution/ have a solution post a comment.
